How to Learn a Swing That Works for You

If you have been following this blog then you know that I am a big proponent of teaching each player as an individual and not teaching a method.  Each golfer has unique traits and physical capabilities and it is vital to use a technique that allows you to move and swing and easily. A swing that fits you will not damage your muscles or joints and will not exhaust you during a round of golf.  All swings fall into one of two categories, those being upright or rounded swings, and every player will have one type of swing that feels more natural than the other.  An example of an upright player is Bubba Watson whose swing is nearly vertical, and a rounded player would be Matt Kuchar.  If you are unsure of the type of swing you use or which is most natural, simply decide whether or not a you prefer to use your arms for power or your body rotation for power.  If you are more of an arms player then you will be more successful swinging upright.  If, however, you like the feel of turning your shoulders and body through the shot and have a full finish, then you are probably suited for a more rounded swing.
