Take the "Hit" Out of your Swing
Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 08:13AM What is the “Hit”? The “Hit” I am referring to is using your hands to add power to your shot just as the club is approaching impact. As an instructor I see this most often in poor chippers, but this can also affect the full swing as well. Over the past few seasons I have found this to be a major source of frustration for many golfers.
To cure this problem and become a consistent striker of the ball you must keep your hands quiet during the swing. The hands are only supposed to hold the club and maintain a constant grip pressure. They are not to become part of the action and interrupt the swing while the club is in motion.
Your Key To Improvement
The key to getting rid of this bad habit is to become aware of any changes in your grip pressure during the swing. Players who are changing their grip pressure are usually doing so either at the top of the back swing or just as the club is about to make contact with the ball. In either case, the timing and/or swing plane will be thrown off and the result will be a poor strike.
If you are a player who is struggling with inconsistency due to some “Hit” in your swing, learn to keep your hands quiet and I know you will be happy with results.
