Golf Tip #3 - Improve Your Putting

Is there a secret to holing more putts?  Yes!  The answer is found in correctly aiming your putter at address.  If you can learn to aim your putter at your intended target, you have a very good chance of making the putt, even if you make an incorrect stroke.  If, however, you aim your putter on the wrong line, you are 5 times less likely to make the putt, even with a good stroke.

In order to practice good alignment, you need a reliable form of feedback.  Some golfers practice using a chalk line that etches a line on the green, but I recommend using a string line for 3 reasons. First, by using a string line, you are able to train your eyes to set up directly over the target line.  Second, the string line can be re-positioned, so that you can practice  breaking putts as well as straight ones.  Third, since the string is easy to move, you can protect the putting green from damaging foot prints that are often the result of practicing on a chalk line.

When you first try using a string line, you may find it takes a few minutes to adjust to being lined up properly.  This is a normal adjustment period, especially if you have been aimed incorrectly for a long time.
